DescriptionThis study examined the Koehler motivation gain effect (KE) in exergame tasks using virtual partners. The KE occurs when an inferior team member performs a taxing task better in a team situation than one would expect from knowledge of his/her performance individually. The effect is hypothesized to be most potent when one's partner is moderately more capable in ability and in conjunctive task conditions where the group's potential productivity is equal to the productivity of its least capable member. However these conditions not been examined in exercise tasks. This study was designed to determine whether, under conjunctive task conditions, people's motivation in health games can be improved using a virtual partner under differing ability conditions.
