Description | The dictionary defines a lark as a merry, carefree adventure, while many game genres incorporate adventure as the primary theme. Students in a Linux operating system course are assigned the Linux Activity to Reinforce Knowledge or LARK project. The project requires students to develop a game in the Linux operating system that operates on the command line and teaches players about using the Linux environment and its utilities.
Common game elements are required, including purpose and conflict. Students are encouraged to reward player success and allow players to learn from their mistakes while incorporating a narrative. The assessment encourages students to actively construct knowledge in a way that is enticing to other students via gamification. Consequently, the students increase their competence in Linux and become more aware of their own learning process in what is known as the protégé effect. |
